Why psychics don't win the lottery (and other musings)

It's an old (and lame) dig at psychics "if psychics could see into the future, they'd surely know the lotto numbers!" cue knee slapping guffaw ::sigh::

It's one of those topics that inspires many opinion so I'll share mine...and it has NOTHING to do with not being allowed to benefit from having psychic ability (IMO anyway).

Recently I applied to become a member of the Australian Academy of Spirit. Part of this application process required me to complete a questionnaire which questioned my techniques, philosophies and beliefs regarding psychic and mediumship so I thought I'd share an answer (or two):

What is a medium? What is the purpose of your role?
A medium is a person who is able to alter their state of consciousness in order to raise their Spirt-self and connect to the universal consciousness for the purpose of connecting to the spirits/energies of those who have passed into the afterlife. I believe that the primary goal is to provide evidence of continued conscious existence/life after death in order to provide reassurance, guidance and comfort to sitters.

What is the difference between working in a psychic capacity, or working with mediumship?
Psychic work is where the reader connects to and 'reads' the energy of the sitter - this could include giving evidence of the sitters' past, present and possible future. lt could also include psychometrising the spirit world (but is not active communication with a conscious energy/spirit.

Mediumship is where the reader connects to the energies/spirits of those who have passed and engage with a consciousness energy/spirit.

What are your thoughts on the need for training of mediums?
I feel that ongoing training and development is important - this allows a medium to develop new skills and 'frames of reference' to allow their own skills to progress. Everyone has a different experience and it can give clarity to a medium who may have had new/different forms of evidence or methods of connection - i.e. can give an opportunity to 'exchange
notes'. ln addition, our own work with spirit evolves over time - my readings are vastly different today than they were 3 years ago and much of this is utilising the skills, knowledge and confidence acquired in a training setting.

So....why DON'T psychics win the lottery? I hear you ask....

I don't buy that whole "can't benefit from the ability" crap because the way I see it, if the spirit world wants a person to devote their life to serving spirit and being able to do that in this physical world that requires cold, hard cash then surely the spirit world would give us the means in which to do that.

For me, I have tried it (just to see) and actually I won 2 raffles through using my psychic ability. I also nearly won a small fortune on Keno using my psychic ability (but my greedy earth brain said to pick two more numbers to make up ten...which I did and got 8/10 numbers correct! and yep, you guessed it....the last 2 numbers my earth brain picked were the two not drawn!

My opinion on this (and it is my opinion) is that even the best psychic could sit and ask for lottery numbers from their spirit guides, intuition, whatever and most likely receive those 6-7 magic numbers BUT time has really no meaning in the spirit world so we could never pin down exactly WHEN those 6-7 numbers will be drawn or even if they will be drawn in the same lottery draw!

So yes, I could sit in the Power and be inspired to select 6-7 lottery numbers and be sure that at some point in the next 6 months or so that those numbers WILL BE DRAWN - when, where and in what lottery is the variable....but I could argue that I successfully chose 6-7 lottery numbers.

And to scoff and thumb your nose at psychics not being able to see into the future, it's all a crock of shit, etc....well just remember that the weather is forecast using advanced scientific methods and equipment and they can't get it exactly right either.
